Prof.
Gary Doll is the recently named Timken
Professor of Surface Engineeirng at The University of
Akron. Prior to his recent appointment, Dr. Doll was Chief
Technologist at the Timken Company where he managed and
directed global research and development activities in
bearing tribology, lubrication and surface
engineering. Before joining Timken in 1996, Gary was a
staff scientist at the General Motors Research Laboratories
where he led research and development activities aimed at
increasing the power density of powertrain systems and
components. Since joining Timken, he has served in several
technology roles, including technical director of the Timken
Surface Engineering business. Gary has received more than 20
U.S. patents and has published more than 150 papers. He
earned bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in physics
from Marshall University and the University of Kentucky. He
is the recipient of NATO and Westinghouse scholarships and
was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship in physics at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2009, he was
elected as a fellow of ASM International and is the incoming
chair of the ASME Wind Energy Tribology Committee. |
